Blackboard Maintenance

We apologize for the inconvenience but the Learning Management System (Blackboard) will be unavailable for SCHEDULED maintenance on Saturday, August 1st from 4AM MDT to 8PM MDT. On Monday, July 13th, 2009, Blackboard Managed Hosting experienced a data center-wide outage as a result of a failing network switch. Through a coordinated effort with their vendor, they determined that a full switch replacement is the best course of action to increase reliability and stability at their Northern Virginia Data Center 2 (VA2). As this device is a part of their core network infrastructure, they require an extended emergency maintenance window to perform the hardware replacement.

Respondus Lockdown Browser Update

As of August 1st 2009 the Respondus LockDown Browser will no longer be available to UNC faculty and students. The Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning has determined the product was comparatively underutilized. The application will be uninstalled from all UNC computer labs prior to fall semester 2009. CETL will continue to offer training sessions for faculty regarding issues of plagiarism and the available tools to combat it. For additional information please contact CETL at 970-351-2885.

Blackboard Maintenance

In preparation for "Back to School 2009" the Blackboard Managed Hosting Engineers will be performing maintenance on the hosted Blackboard environment; the purpose of this maintenance is to proactively perform necessary maintenance on the existing infrastructure in their datacenter. During this window service interruptions are expected for all systems. Blackboard System Latency 7/13/09

Our Blackboard Managed Hosting service provider has reported the following status update regarding the UNC Blackboard environment:

“Service Interruption Possible_Network Latency: We have been notified by one of our ISPs that they are currently experiencing problems within their network. This may result in increased latency and/or packet loss when trying to access your hosted Blackboard system. A benefit of being a Blackboard Managed Hosting client is that we maintain multiple redundant connections to the Internet and this should help the situation. It is possible that traffic will be directed to our second provider during this time.”
