Blackboard Upgrade

Please be advised of planned maintenance on the Blackboard Learning Management system scheduled to begin at 10:00pm MST on Wednesday, November 24th. To complete the process, the Blackboard system will remain unavailable until 10:00pm MST on Thursday November 25th. SafeAssign Status

From Blackboard Managed Hosting: "On Tuesday, November 2nd, papers submitted to SafeAssign were not being processed. The outage was caused by a storage failure related to continued high submission volume. It took some time to identify the cause, but thereafter service was quickly resolved. As part of the resolution, we have added storage capacity to be more reliable and robust. We believe the system is stabilized and papers are now being processed. There remains a backlog of papers that are queued for processing; this will occur over the next few days and we expect the system to be completely caught up by November 9th.
We apologize for this inconvenience. Our teams are working diligently to monitor the situation and correct any further problems."

Blackboard E-mail Messages

E-mail messages sent from Blackboard are being flagged as junk mail by BearMail, which is managed by Microsoft. Blackboard Managed Hosting has been made aware of the issue and is working toward a resolution to white-list the e-mail messages sent from Blackboard, through Outlook Live (BearMail). Until then, there are 3 options available to students:

1. Check your junk folders to check for false positives and clean them out on a regular basis.

2. Disable junk e-mail filtering by selecting Options->Junk E-Mail->Select radio button "Don't filter junk e-mail".

3. Create e-mail contacts and select Options->Junk E-Mail->select checkbox "Also trust e-mail from my Contacts" which is below the Safe Senders dialog box. Contacts can easily be created from e-mails received from other users by selecting the e-mail message, right-clicking on the sender's e-mail address and choosing “Add to Contacts...” The first name and last name need to be filled in, but those are the only mandatory fields.

Blackboard Upgrade

The Information Technology and Instructional Design (IDIT) support team wanted to remind you that Blackboard will be unavailable from May 13-15 to complete the planned upgrade from Blackboard version 7.3 to version 9.0. Documentation and support resources for the new version are available for your review at http://www.unco.edu/blackboard/bbupgrade.html. If you are teaching a course (or courses) starting May 17, please be sure to check the course(s) in the new version on May 16.

Blackboard Status

From Blackboard Managed Hosting:
We are aware of the recent issues with stability and performance of SafeAssign. Updates to the server were recently made and additional changes will be made this week to modify scripts that run to collect statistics and monitor status. In addition, there is a new SafeAssign maintenance release planned for June/July timeframe. This release will include bug fixes, performance improvements, as well as an upgrade to the database operating system. We will send advance notice of anticipated downtime.
